Welcome to the St. Catharines Kendo Club!

Kendo (Japanese Fencing) is practiced by millions of men, women and children worldwide.

Kendo means "The Way of the Sword" in English and traces its roots to medieval Japan, at which time swordsmanship flourished. To the Samurai, the sword was an extension of his own spirit. He chose to fight not only with skill, but with honour. His vigorous training was devoted to more than perfecting the right techniques. It also focused on developing the right spirit as well.

With the bamboo sword (shinai) and protective equiment (bogu), Kendo players engage in strenuous matches to develop courage, rapid reflexes, clarity of thought, concentration and self-discipline.

The object of Kendo then is not to dominate others, but to master oneself.
