About
the St. Catharines Kendo Club
The
St. Catharines Kendo Club was founded by Professor William C. Gill
in 1988 and practices at the Tokumeikan Dojo in St.
Catharines, Ontario.
Kendo promotes
wellness, spirit, social skills, culture, physical fitness and skill
and can be practiced by men, women or children.
Practices consist
of warm-ups and drills of basic footwork and striking techniques.
Players who have advanced to the stage where they are ready to wear
BOGU (the protective equipment in Kendo) will suit up and either
practice with each other or be MOTODACHI (targets) for beginning
students.
The wearing
of the traditional uniform Hakama and Keikogi is mandatory once
a player is in BOGU, although one can start with track pants and
t-shirt as a beginning student.
No previous
experience in the martial arts is required to join the St. Catharines
Kendo Club. All that is required is a positive attitude. The St.
Catharines Kendo Club plays as a team. We watch out for each other,
cheer each other on and push each other to be the best we can.
"Promise
to play Kendo safely,
give 100% at each Kendo session,
play fairly and as a team player.
Express spirit and respect towards parents,
friends and others along the way."
